Summary of Program:

  • Intended to increase Aboriginal representation and address labour shortages within hospitality, and specifically the casinos
  • One-time intake; training expected to begin early 2012
  • 24 participants
  • Information session to take place at MMF, followed by second session at one of the Winnipeg casinos
  • Three months of classroom training, including essential skills, food and beverage training, safe food handling, bartender training, alcohol serving, and first aid
  • Six month internship at a Winnipeg casino
  • Training and internship supervision provided through Louis Riel Institute
  • MET funding: $ 226,801
  • Contributions from MLC:
    • Financial: $ 244,704
    • In-kind: Essential Skills curriculum, Food & Beverage curriculum, training advisor, uniforms for internship, trainee benefits
