Summary of Program:

  • Intended to address the current labour shortage and anticipated growth within the steel fabrication industry
  • One-time intake; training slated to begin January 9, 2012
  • 12 participants will selected for initial 12-week training program
    • Four will receive two weeks of additional training for field work
    • Four will receive four weeks of additional training for welding
  • Participants who complete the program successfully will continue on to permanent employment with Capitol Steel
  • Subsequent Agreement for additional intakes anticipated for 2012
  • MET funding: $146,600 (current fiscal year: $118,260; next fiscal year: $28,340)
  • Capitol Steel contributions: $34,768.00
  • Workplace Education Manitoba contributions: $6,666.00

Update: The 12 participants have been selected and notified, and are slated to start training on January 9, 2012.
