Indigenous Relations Coordinator - Hudbay Minerals (Flin Flon, MB)

The role is responsible for coordination and implementation of programs, activities, and requirements relating to the Hudbay Indigenous Relations Strategy, including but not limited to: developing & maintaining strong relationships with Indigenous communities, economic reconciliation activities, cultural awareness & training, and collaboration with Human Resources initiatives. The role will support positive and open engagement with Indigenous communities in areas where Hudbay seeks to explore and operate.

The role holder will support the Indigenous Relations Lead and Hudbay with the development and implementation of short term and long term Indigenous strategies. This would include working internally with other Hudbay departments to reach a mutual understanding of the proposed projects and Indigenous protocols.

The Ideal Candidate will be a team orientated individual who has:

  • A post secondary education and/or equivalent preferably with strong community relations and language expertise; as well as demonstrated experience in public and Indigenous relations;
  • Ability to provide guidance and advice to Hudbay on all phases of engagement to support the company's business objectives;
  • Ability to develop and sustain networks with Indigenous external organizations in natural resources;
  • Ability to develop and implement a cultural understanding with Hudbay's present and future relationship with Indigenous communities;
  • Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision;
  • Possesses a valid Class 5 Drivers License;
  • Proficiency in Google workspace, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Additions:

  • Must be able to communicate in the Swampy Cree or Woodland Cree Language
  • Able to travel to Indigenous communities on a frequent basis e.g., between 50 % - 80%
  • Participate in career fairs, job fairs and conferences and report current trends and information
  • Coordinate and document all community meetings
  • Implement community feedback mechanisms
  • Prior experience and involvement with Indigenous communities
  • Prior understanding of intergenerational effects experienced with Indigenous communities
  • Industry experience and knowledge is considered an asset
  • Priority will be given to qualified northern Indigenous candidates i.e., Treaty 5 and 6
  • Preference to candidates who have worked with remote and northern Indigenous communities
  • Must be willing to relocate to Flin Flon or Snow Lake, MB
  • Commitment to working in a safe and responsible manner
